We work with clients through weekly face-to-face or telephone meetings (thus allowing for business and personal travel or family commitments). In general coaching meetings are 45-60 minutes long and focus on the issues that are most important to the client in the moment while also keeping in sight short and long-term objectives.
Areas that we typically explore with clients include:
- Short and Long term goals
- Time and priority management
- Values, passion and purpose
- Effective and dynamic communication
- Dealing with change and transitions
- Overcoming obstacles, whether in projects, career, relationships or life in general
Clients typically work with a coach for three to six months depending on goals and progress. At regular intervals we will review with the client the continuing benefits of coaching.
The Energy Leadership™ Index and Development System provide additional insights and structure. These resources, developed by the Institute of Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC) are available to enrich the coaching process. Additional information on Energy Leadership is available through iPEC. (See Energy Leadership™)
Creating and sustaining successful teams requires more than leaders. A recent Harvard Business Review interview questions the value of teams. The authors, however, indicate that coaching can make the difference between a team that does not achieve and one that does, provided it helps the team focus on their tasks and processes, and is not merely about social interactions or interpersonal relationships. In order for teams to deliver results commensurate with the talent and skills of their members they must receive “coaching as a group in team processes – especially at the beginning, midpoint and end of a team project.” (“Why teams don’t work”, J. R. Hackman with D. Coutu, HBR, May 2008, p98-105)
We develop customized programs to address the needs and potential of leadership and management teams. These may include workshops of appropriate duration to discover the team’s true purpose, create an inspiring vision and develop the goals, strategies, norms and processes to ensure sustained results. Our coaches will work with teams and team leaders on an ongoing basis, offering tools to assess and progress and providing ongoing support.
Team Leader Support
Leading a team, work group or organization requires more than analytical and organizational skills. To succeed as a team leader one must be able to have demonstrated abilities in –
- Dynamic Communication
- Influencing and Engaging Others
- Problem Solving
- Productivity and Decision Making
- Time management and Balance
In addition, a successful leader demonstrates a high degree of Emotional Intelligence and the ability to create High Energy Relationships.
The Energy Leadership™ Index individual and 360° assessments and the Energy Leadership System as well as other standard assessment tools are particularly useful to create an effective development roadmap for team leaders.
Gáler Coaching for Excellence offers a program to accelerate projects and processes by applying Lean Development Principles, the highly regarded and successful approach developed by Toyota Motors Corporation to increase innovation, reduce costs and increase quality and customer satisfaction.
Our approach has been used to create drug development plans that were at least 6-12 months shorter than the industry standard without additional cost. Likewise, when applied to standard processes supporting drug discovery and development, the implemented solutions resulted in significant reductions in cost, time to complete and error rates.
An additional benefit: project teams applying this process increased their level of trust, engagement and effective communication.
