All weekend as I thought about topics for my weekly blog, one phrase kept popping into my head: “there is a leadership gap. ”  I can’t say where this came from or why.   In the political arena we have recently seen great leadership exemplified –accountability, perseverance, focus on people’s needs, authenticity, willingness to change.   And we have also seen its antithesis exemplified with, among others, the use of demagoguery, information hoarding or outright lying, and extremely poor listening. Professional cialis even so, it is not the political examples that come to mind.   I have met with a number of clients and colleagues in the pharmaceutical industry who have told me stories that made me squirm.   Some examples,

  • A respected and long-term manager who lets an employee know his job is ending via email.
  • A senior leader who checks the numbers in excruciating detail when she should be giving direction and support, not to mention learn the new business for which he is responsible.
  • A senior leader who jovially told his staff (who, by the way, have worked upwards of 60 hours a weeks for the last year) to keep their opinions and ideas to themselves, since he’s not interested.
Of course this is not new, and sadly perhaps not surprising, in an era where employment at will and a long-term recession have caused most to worry about their job security.   Still professional cialis, it appears that the recession is bringing the worst in our leaders. How much better would our workplaces and our businesses professional cialis function if we replaced toxic behaviors with genuine caring and authentic leadership?  Would we increase innovation and success if we actually listened to everyone in our workplace? Could we increase productivity and creativity by allowing experimentation and celebrating failure when it is matched with learning?  How would these changes impact the recession?  I’m betting these would make a positive difference. When CEO salaries are (even in this recession) many multiples of the average at companies they lead, and when those [professional cialis] companies barely create value for their investors and economic security for their staff, how can we be confident of our future as the economic engine of the world? What do you think?
